To the Poets of the Bay Area, Hi again from Half Moon Bay, where once a month we dedicate an entire evening to spoken-word poetry. In just one week we’ll get together for our last reading of the season—we’ll be taking a break for August and September.
Coastside Poetry will happen again on Tuesday, July 9th at Café Society (522 Main Street, Half Moon Bay, 94019). Doors open at 6:30 P.M., and the features begin at 7:00 P.M. A poetry open mic will begin around 8:00 P.M. This wil...l feature 10 poets who have 5 minutes each to speak their work – no music, please. A signup sheet will be available at the coffee bar. As usual, beverages and light fare will be available all evening.
For our July reading, we’ll welcome East Bay poet Ben Gucciardi, as well as former Half Moon Bay resident, teacher-poet Sande Anfang.
Benjamin Gucciardi’s poems have appeared in Best New Poets 2018, Forklift Ohio, Indiana Review, Orion Magazine, RHINO, Spillway, and other journals. He is a winner of Iron Horse Literary Review’s 2019 Trifecta Poetry prize, the Milton Kessler Memorial Prize from Harpur Palate, a Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg prize and contests from The Maine Review and The Santa Ana River Review. He works with refugee and immigrant youth in Oakland through Soccer Without Borders, an organization he founded in 2006.
Sandra Anfang is a poet, teacher, and visual artist. Her poems have appeared in numerous journals, including San Francisco Peace and Hope, Unbroken Literary Journal, Rattle, and Spillway. Her chapbook, Looking Glass Heart, was published by Finishing Line Press in 2016. Road Worrier: Poems of the Inner and Outer Landscape (Finishing Line Press, 2018) followed. A full-length collection, Xylem Highway, was released in March, 2019 from Main Street Rag. Sandra was nominated for a Best Short Fictions award and a Pushcart Prize. She is founder of the monthly series, Rivertown Poets, in Petaluma, California, and a California Poet/Teacher in the Schools. To write, for her, is to breathe.
We look forward to seeing you then!
Best, Diane Moomey and Steve Long

This place is all about love. People, neighborhood, quiche, cappuccino, carrot cake, jazz, friends, prosecco - love.

The spiritual epicenter of Half Moon Bay's cafe society. Jazz playing all day over the sound system, great beverages, pastries, other breakfast items as well as lunch (soups, salads, sandwiches). Live jazz on Friday nights. My favorite place to hang out in HMB unless I want to sit by the ocean at its sister coffee house the Ebb Tide Cafe.

Our go to coffee shop while in HMB. Excellent Americano with jazz in the background. Thinking of Herman Leonard and all his jazz photos.

One of the better coffee shops in Half Moon Bay. A good mix of local and tourist. Very clean and friendly.

Old school cafe, home baked goods, good coffee. The place where the locals go ...

I’m in love, not just with Half Moon Bay but this cafe. Best coffee and cake I’ve had in 6 weeks travelling America, with jazz and wonderful service to boot. You have my heart

I love your café! Mostly because of your wonderful, hard working, friendly staff, in particular Melanie, and also Rachid. I've only been in twice and each time I felt welcomed. Melanie seems to be able to cope and deal with all eventualities, i:e, a busy line, refills, customer queries. We're not related, I assure you. One request, and it's because I'm Irish! Barry's Tea is a wonderful addition to any tea menu :-) Thanks again for a place with a nice friendly atmosphere and attitude. looking forward to my next visit
