#FunFactFriday: Flying Goat Coffee blends their coffees post-roast, which ensures that each component is roasted properly and added in the correct proportions!

Enjoying some Califia Farms Barista Blend Oat Milk with our semi-dark special blend from Flying Goat Coffee - Horsepower. This roast has notes of caramel and dark chocolate, with a syrupy body. A must for any dark roast fan, and only available at either location.

You may have noticed that a few months ago, we partnered with Flying Goat Coffee, a local roaster based out of Healdsburg. We don’t just carry their coffee – we have two specialty roasts made just for us! Our medium roast, Mama Jules, is made up of Ethiopian, Guatemalan, and Mexican beans. As with our Horsepower semi-dark roast, it’s blended post-roast, which locks in the flavor. Flying Goat has been using Mexico Serrano Altura beans since 2005!

Our Minty tea is a staff favorite in Alameda. We feature a peppermint/spearmint blend, but also have straight peppermint for the purists!
Peppermint has all kinds of reported health benefits, this article goes into a few. Our favorite? Hard to choose, but it certainly soothes the stomach after too much coffee!

Julie's is awesome, great environment and food. We host art meetups here quite often and everyone has a great time. They have wine, beer or coffee and tea. So something for everyone. They always have great art up too.

Julie's is a lovely dream of an independent tea shop. Great coffee from Tailor Maid, lovely eclectic teas, tasty food (some is vegan and/ or gluten free - some of it isn't), and a lovely ambience. They occasionally have "unplugged" days where there's no internet so people actually have to read a book or interact with each other. The music on the stereo is usually good, although occasionally unsuited to the otherwise peaceful atmosphere.

Wall art rotates through - and it's very well curated, very different from one month to another but always attractive and thought-provoking.

Although the interior shop is sunny and charming, the highlight of Julie's in Alameda is the sheltered back patio. It's fenced with all kinds of flowering vines... a little oasis of peace and beauty. There are a few pieces of eclectic garden art, a few plants for sale. There are occasional swarms of fritillaria butterflies attracted by the passiflora vine. Sit alone at a small table, tete a tete with a friend, or share a larger picnic table with a group.

Alameda is one of my favorite towns in the world. Julie's is one of my favorite places in Alameda. So yes. Go!

Also... Julie has a new location in Oakland, in the Temescal district. A slightly sleeker feel, a slightly different menu. I need to check it out again. :-D

I hesitate to tell you how great their coffee is, about their baked eggs and especially about their ginger scones with Devonshire cream but if you must know - they are amazing. Please leave me a scone. Seriously.

A treasure. Delicious chai, coffee, eggnog lattes at the holidays, herbal teas. Beautiful backyard patio. And Caroline is such a wonderful barista... She always remembers my name and asks how we're doing. If I ever leave Alameda, this is the place I'll miss the most.

The only source for my kind of tea in searching the east bay but not for twice the Castto coffee co. price.
