Rio Theater Description

The Rio is an historic movie theater and cafe located in beautiful Monte Rio. Recently purchased by an enthusiastic group of friends from the Russian River and Bay Area, our mission is to engage the community in creating an inclusive and fun venue that serves as a relaxing gathering place for both locals and visitors. In addition to screening first run films, we plan to host creative events and festivals at the Rio, as well as offer a unique event space for people and organizations looking for a beautiful place to come together in the heart of the Russian River Valley.

Our little theater is in the NY Times today. Co-owner and graphic journalist Wendy MacNaughton shared about the flood's impact in the business section. So many small businesses on the river are feeling the pain right now.

Thank you so much to everyone for your thoughts and offers of support. Lots of work this weekend cleaning out the water, river sand, and lots of soggy garbage from all corners of theater. Huge thanks to everyone who came out to help. We are so moved by the resilience of the river community.
So many of you have asked how you can help the theater recover from this disaster, so here are two ways to help: - Signup to volunteer: https://goo.gl/forms/YqQyJeUYqhskLDch2 - Help fund the recovery: http://gofundme.com/rebuildtherio

Our hearts are heavy with the news that longtime Rio Theater owner Suzi Schaffert passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer. She and Don purchased the Rio in 1992 and was the heart and soul of the Rio. And we continued our relationship with Suzi and Don after we purchased the Rio a few years ago.
We will forever remember her spirit, smarts and commitment to the Rio and to her community and family.
There is a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am at St. Elizabeth's Church in Guer...neville tomorrow August 25, 2018 with a wake immediately following at the Monte Rio Amphitheater.
Rest in peace Suzi.
