Buttery is always great. Can be a little confusing when ordering and picking up. Great selection of freshly made breads, pastries, bf sandwiches and coffee. Can sit outside. Limited seating inside and not very comfortable with all the people jostling around to figure what or where or how to pick up orders. Usually an apres surf stop for me when I have time. Parking is on the street and typically a challeng.

A couple days ago I literally had the best breakfast of my entire life. So we came today. Not quite as epic a meal this morning but wonderful none the less. Highly recommended.

Really not that great. Don’t bother getting the ribs, they are rubbish, and I really wouldn’t rate the cakes that much. The staff are nice and it is a nice looking place inside.

I used to love this place. Moved to Santa Cruz yesterday while my fiance was inside purchasing my hot tea I quietly was sitting near the back lawn with my two dogs was only there 3 minutes with my dogs tied to outside bench. Rudely asian manager came out told me it was my responsibility to clean the trash from his bushes. Excuse me?? I am a paying customer, it is not my responsibility to clean your establishment. Was totally taken by surprise with the unnecessary rudeness. Its The Buttery!!! I have been visiting for years was very offended by the man for no real good reason.

Been coming here for 10 years now. Food is excellent: lunch and brunch.. Salads... Even coffee is outstanding. And the bakery is the best part about it. We have bought every birthday cake, anniversary cake... You name it.... for that many years... All here. Yes it's that amazing!

Why the Buttery? Yummy baked goods. They make an outstanding cappuccino! The people are #1 community. And there is deli with food to die for.

Food is decent..but staff should be train for sanitary. Wiping the seat of a chair then goes off to wipe the table and leaves the rag on counter. His hands then goes on to touching some plates preparing to start a customer's order. All of this happens before my eyes. He seems friendly and smiling, not disgruntled. Anyways, hope things change for the better. Maybe I am just picky. Sigh.

Delicious! I bought the chocolate cake, and it wasn't too sweet but tasty. so amazing for the cake. And the staff help me write birthday on the cake, so friendly. Really nice place for dessert.

It's a great mom/pop place and I love the size. It's perfect to sit outside on a nice day. Their array of pastries is wonderful and I can try something new every time. You bus your own table when you sit outside but it's a comfortable area.

Words can't express the amazing experience my wife and I had. Darcy was fantastic. James provided top-flight service. Ingrid was amazing. Michael is a class act and I admire his vision and leadership very much. You won't find a friendly environment. The food is exceptionally delicious. Worth the wait and if you dont experience The Buttery you are missing something very special.

Good for what it is. I had the chocolate croissant which was just okay. The apple tart was very good. If you are looking for fantastic and authentic this isn't the place for you. Head to Tartine in San Francisco instead.

Three of us ordered and we had trouble finishing our plates. Everything was delicious and the teas and coffee were good and hot. It was my second time, and it can get really crowded so you sit outside with rock stars, which you gotta like.

Best carrot cupcakes! Very moist. Personal sized key lime pies are very good, but they are often sold out.
