About The Malibu Cafe At Calamigos Ranch
Located in the Malibu Mountains, The Malibu Cafe is an
enchanting and romantic outdoors dining venue.
The Malibu Cafe At Calamigos Ranch Description
Four generations ago Calamigos Ranch opened its first restaurant right here on this very spot. Owned and operated as it is today, by the Gerson Family, the first (of many) signature items was born; The Calamigos Barbeque Sauce.
With their roots planted firmly in the Cowboy Lifestyle, illustrating the rugged brand of live and living off the land, Grant and Helen Walter Gerson created what is known today as Calamigos Ranch.
Over 50 years later we would like to welcome you, our Guest, back to Calamigos Ranch for a dining experience wrapped deeply in Rustic California Heritage, honoring the cowboys and cowgirls before us, for a fusion cuisine unlike any other.
The Gerson Family welcomes you to the Malibu Cafe; a breathtaking dining experience we call Nouveau Barbeque. With signature dishes created right here, generations ago, paired with modern cooking techniques and flavors, we are proud to honor our ancestors and introduce you to a few of the many things that make California timeless.

Thanksgiving is almost here, friends! Do you have your plans? If not, we're here for you.
Best part: you don't even have to wash all those dishes.
We had such an amazing time and Zacharias was an amazing server. An amazing experience for friends and family. We will definitely be coming back!! Giant sized chess, giant size Jenga, ping pong , corn hole, shopping, wine and more!! What else could you ask for??!!
Quite possibly the best place EVER!
Super friendly attentive staff, the setting is like an enchanted forest / wonderland.
The food was fantastic, outdoor games - sandbag toss, giant jenga, pool tables, ping pong, a pond for a little sail.
Great music playing throughout.
We can’t wait to go back.
Malibu Cafe is always a FUN outdoor experience. Food menu not a huge selection, but pretty good food. Drinks are great! Atmosphere, Ambiance and location is perfect for a nice Sunny Day outing with family and friends.
Love this place!!!... <3 Always wanted to come here and enjoy the ambiance. Food, drinks, service, valet and everything else on top of it was a great experience . Glad i chose Malibu Cafe as my birthday venue. All my friends had an awesome time. Already planning to come back soon with my other group of friends for another birthday celebration. Thanks to the owners for coming up with a place like this where people can have fun and be comfortable. :)

I love the service and ambience. Ashley was great!!
Been there several times for brunch. Food and service was excellent. Very family oriented and kid friendly. We could have stayed there all day..
Absolutely love this place we celebrated a birthday & so much fun. Great food , drinks , plenty to do - pool , corn hole, paddle boat and beautiful atmosphere.
The staff and the setting are very nice. Nestled in the Malibu Mountains, it's definitely a nice break from the hustle and bustle of everyday L.A. life. The food was good, as well. The downfall? While very friendly, the service was very slow and while that may be the exact opposite of "escaping hustle and bustle," you also don't want to grow a ZZ Top beard waiting for your food. Be prepared for the price, as well. Burger, salmon tacos, & one glass of wine came in just under $60. Maybe it's the Midwesterner in me, but I found that a tad steep.
The Malibu Cafe is great for an outdoor gathering. There are limitations which could of made it a 5 star rating. Seating on the upstairs section is very tight and families with strollers have to be aware of this. We actually had to go back to our car and returned it because there wasn’t anywhere to put it. The service was good but lacked in areas of focus especially asking for cream for coffee. I requested it twice and was assured it was coming but had to ask again and waited an additional 15 minutes for it and at that point, my coffee was cold. I did however get a fresh brew to make up for it. So good experience, but it wasn’t the 5 star that I am use to seeing as I have been a previous patron of the restaurant.
Our server was friendly and attentive
Salmon tacos were good and generous portion
Wine (especially the California wines )
Very overpriced
Sets a bad tone at the beginning that they're trying to rip you off.
Impressed with their children's menu and it's a great place where you can relax and let the kids run around and explore safe and fun atmosphere .
Love love love the atmosphere! Lots of open space, laid back, great music, chill crowd. The reason for a 4 instead of a 5 because the prices are insane. But all in all it was definitely worth it.
When I first called to make a reservation- I was told that someone would call me back to confirm my reservation. Huh? What a waste of time but... I played along. Sure enough- I never heard back.... When I called back the following day- Brynn said- we don't make same day reservations- which is so absurd!! After I explained what happened the previous day, she put me on hold for 10 minutes to discuss with a supposed manager as to who could've possibly made that mistake. Once their "summit" resulted in still not knowing who could've messed up their reservation protocol- she obligingly gave me the reservation again. The whole thing took way too long and was a ridiculous way to do reservations in the 1st place. So we got our original reservation for 7pm on a Sunday night. You know what??? It wasn't even remotely crowded.... They kept all the dining in the top tables and the best tables below were empty! So having jumped through all those hoops- I was hoping for decent food. A couple of years ago- they had ribs & fries that i remembered to be the best and not overly priced thing on the menu. Low and behold- they pulled that off the menu.
What we found was Waaaaaayyyyy over-priced food that's average at best ($27 burgers and $14 small side of fries that serves party of 1... My 3 miniscule tacos (appetizer) was $20. My friend's quinoa salad was around $24 dollars plus more... to add chicken in it. Of course.
BUT it's an amazing location that's fun to take pictures, let kids run around & also dog friendly. It's best when the sun comes down to see the trees lit up... but get ready to pay $14 plus tip for your mandatory valet parking first. It's great to bring an out of town guest for that Malibu flavor.... but for my family- this will not be a "regular" place for us- I'm sad to say.
I thought the place was super cute and charming! HOWEVER the server Kris was so rude.. first he came up to the table with chew in his mouth that's so disgusting... second he called someone "buddy" at our table who he didn't even know. The drinks and food were good. Someone did get the beer chicken at the table and it was dry. Kris took forever to even check on us to see if the food was good (it wasn't busy at the time). When the person at our table told him about the chicken he rudely said "I'll get a manager over here for you" and left abruptly. The manager finally came over after you see them talking for what seemed like way to long then listened and said "I'm sorry thanks for the feedback" and left our table without even asking what could be done to fix this. Kris then comes back over defending himself to the table. Clearly the manager told him what we said... I'm sorry but excuse me... I've been a server for over 5 years. The way he acting was very unprofessional. After defending himself he left... never offered desert.... didn't even come drop off the bill.. one of us literly had to walk up to him 15 mins later to get the bill that was never adjusted after this bad experience.
I will say the place was so cute. I'm down here visiting family and they wanted to show me this awesome spot. The games and drinks before dinner was the highlight of the night. They just need to weed out the bad attitudes...
Yes is beautiful but omg one hamburger and one soda $28 and something bottle of soda was $6 ok no problem is not a everyday thing but problem was it toke 45 min one cashier and one cook and cook was touching every thing and no cloves (boxes and Potato chips ) and then cooking the food it kind of make me uncomfortable and $ and taking 45 min to cook and lines long and u could see the people's face when they were paying for food
I go but not eating anything at all there .
Overpriced for the quality. Setting is nice yet trying too hard to be country. Food way too basic for the price point. Seriously $65 dollars for fatty BBQ plate with Wonder Bread? They can't even provide real corn bread with their very average BBQ which is inflated. This place is a 1 timer.
My friend and I had come for the Malibu Cafe as one of our Cali trip plans on Sunday. We are from NY and heard rave reviews about this place. Now the only reason I didn’t give one star was because it is certainly an interesting place- but this was like getting orange juice in a milk jug...
We came for the cafe to eat Lunch. No clear “Here is the cafe” signs- just sass and pointing “it’s over here”. When we found the main cafe, we were told it doesn’t open until 4pm. Then we were pointed to the crowds and stands... then the prices came into play... $17 for a HOT DOG... $27 for my friends meal.... that didn’t include drinks.... $7 a pop... sub par food for a hefty price tag. You could see the look on people’s faces when some people ordered drinks for a family to see a $116+ price tag... and the workers and the counter are CLEARLY nervous to mention price. Or when I was told to go to another stand because of HOT soda... only reason we didn’t leave is because the valet already had our car and we still had to shell out money.
I saw this cafe on a top 10 list of places to try. I loved the way it was set up, the atmosphere was nice. As for the menu it was pretty simple, and the food was barely ok. It wasn't flavorful in the least bit! I was truly disappointed. I had shrimp and fries. The fries were ok the shrimps were a nice size but tasted like batter & salt . My drink was very good but was filled to the tippy top with ice and was $14! I'm baffled that the Malibu Cafe made the list, I would have enjoyed a fresh in n out burger & fries more. Would never recommend this place, not for the food anyway.
Food tasted just ok and was WAY OVER PRICED! The drinks were also wayyyy OVER PRICED. I went for a birthday celebration, but I won't go back.
They steal from you here.
The place is cute and all but be very carefull about what you leave in your car when you valet. They stole the one credit card I left in my wallet inside the car and used it for $641 and then tried to use it again for another $1000 somewhere else. Unbelieve that a place like this has such miserable ppl working for them.
Obviously never again will I go back, but I'll make sure I spread the word.
