About Corner Cafe Riverside, Mo

OUR STORY . . . There had always been a
small restaurant at the “Corner” in Riverside, Missouri, but before 1983 it had changed names and hands several
times. Many of the locals wanted to see a return to the old style cafe that had existed there years before and was an icon of its time (Reese’s Cafe). Enter Ed and Kathi Rule. They had never been in the restaurant business before, but always felt they knew what good food was all about. It began on May 15, 1983,
when they opened a little 40-seat cafe that served breakfast and lunch, Monday through Friday.
The CORNER CAFE was born. There was a lot of learning in those first couple years. New items were introduced as daily specials written on the front windows and inside on the chalkboard. The counter became the center of the action. “The Riverside Liar’s
Club” took up the large round table by the counter and became the place to be to find out all the local happenings in town. It didn’t take long for the locals to notice. Then, as word spread, more and more people
would call, asking for directions. It was obvious that expansion was needed. First the weekends, then dinner, then two expansions that doubled the seating. For many
it became a home away from home . . . it was like an extended family. People would come in every day, some several times a day! People would bring in pictures and items to hang on the walls, and they shared their lives with us as we shared our livelihood with them. The original cafe had occupied a location that had lasted
more than 50 years as a restaurant. It was painfully obvious that modernization was needed. Careful consideration was taken while designing the new CORNER CAFE. They
had to make certain that they didn’t alienate the longtime customer, while trying to attract new customers. The new CORNER CAFE opened on December 6, 1994, built on the traditions of the original. The fireplace came
from the foundation of the old family farmhouse. The windmill came from their father’s farm. The pictures on the wall tell about their family history as well as that of Riverside and the surrounding area. The counter, the round table, the food, the service were all fashioned to re-create what people had come to expect from the
original restaurant. Today, we continue the traditions that started back in 1983. With new locations open and more on the way, we
strive to provide the best products, the best service, and the best value in an atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re part of the family. Our family.

Wow!! Wife found this place on trip advisor. It was about 25 minutes from where we were staying. I would have drove an hour to eat there again. Donna our server was amazing. Super friendly with the kids and offers suggestions about the huge menu they have. Food was amazing and timely. Best part was the server and the next part was someone there had over cooked some cinnamon rolls just a bit. I asked if we they would discount some for us for our next mornings breakfast. They didn’t even charge us. And they gave us all one to go. PS. They were still super good. Fresh rolls house made dressings. I could go on and on. Did I mention Donna? She was awesome. And Brianna too. Everyone was friendly and helping each other. Next time we’re in Kansas City the family and I will be stopping by. AMAZING

This is a fabulous place for breakfast. Needed a table for 8 and they were quick to seat us and 2 children.

Food and service were great and Dont forget the sweet roll/ cinnamon buns.

Make sure you have enough people to share it with!

Quiet country atmosphere with home cooking served to your table with a smile and with the economy what it is today still serving that home cooked goodness at a price that you can afford to eat out on. One of Kansas City's best and brightest stars.

Lori and I come over from Bonner at least once or twice a month, friendly atmosphere and the food is great.

Jon served my table of 12 with half of the table being children 6 and under, with hardly any help. He did a fantastic job. Great food and even better service 👍

I cannot visit family in Kansas City, MO without at least one trip to Corner Cafe Restaurant! Biscuits and gravy are my favorite item but often too late for that treat (only until 11:00 AM). I am picky about my bacon and eggs. The waitress said she didn't take my plate from the window until it matched exactly what I ordered.

I am from Dallas, Texas. My sister, Cheryl Porter, took me here for breakfast.

The food was wonderful. Service was great! Their Cinnamon Rolls were the bomb!

Grraaaat breakfast. And don't forget the cinnamon roll. Thursday is Italian night. I like the chicken parmesan. They also make a great cinnamon roll. Wednesday is Mexican food day. A bowl of their beans is really good on an omelet. Aaannnd follow it with a cinnamon roll. While in season, they make a great strawberry pie. They also make a great BlackBerry cobbler. They make these huge cinnamon rolls that must be as shared. I also love the chicken fried chicken and bringing home a cinnamon roll.

Everything was on point! They never disappoint! Wait time was less than 15 minutes and our waitress was excellent

This is where I go to treat myself. I like the chicken fried chicken, hamburger steak, liver and onions, and pork cutlet—which comes with the best hash browns anywhere (if it’s in the morning—they’re not as good at night). I’ve never had bad service.

Food was very good except for the instant mashed potatoes and the overly salty brown gravy. The pie was amazing and the staff was very friendly.

Anonymous

The sausage gravy was TOO thin. It was VERY runny. No body to it at ALL. The desserts are not very tasty either. Service is a little slow but they are very friendly and polite.

The food is always great, we drive down from St. Joseph but he service was not that great.

The services all spent more time standing in the back at the counter talking over schedules and who is doing what instead of waiting on tables. Had to ask for things multiple times .

Soooooo sad!! This was our Fourth of July tradition for a few years now and this year ruined it!! The open faced pot roast with mashed potatoes had absolutely no flavor and was definitely not the usual. Borderline TV dinner!! The worst part of everything was they kept propping open the bathroom door which we were sitting right by. Why would you ever prop open a bathroom door in a restaurant while people are eating!!! So gross!!
