We had a nice time spending a rainy afternoon here last weekend. Love the old recliners and places to sit and music playing. Picked up couple vintage records and had the BEST hot chocolate ever!

Totem Books is my favorite place to hangout in Flint. With a mixture of marvelous art, tasteful music, books, and delicious food and tea, Totem books makes a great spot for families, friends, and individuals to be themselves in a cozy place. The community events, children story events, and the open mics, are filled with talent, and so much fun.

The name of the store is the TOTEM BOOKS and from its unassuming exterior, I had no idea what to expect. Honestly, I was so blown-away with the ambiance that I almost forgot my pleasantries. After a moment to catch my breath and take in the flavor of the surroundings I got down to some serious conversation and some even more serious exploring. This store is an amazing throwback to a time in my life when being in sacred space was an everyday occurrence. There really was something for everyone; all tucked into a remodeled 60s something storefront. You could call it a bookstore but it is so much more. Recycled books, knickknacks, a snack bar/bakery/pub/sandwich shop/gathering place. A kids area set up to accommodate reading/playing and storytelling. The main lounge area to sit and ponder. A meeting area that would easily seat 10 people for a luncheon get together or a spontaneous meeting. But most important were the people. Staff and clientele. A mix of neighborly affection, regulars and the interested and curious newbies. This is a place where you are instantly transported to a place of childhood memories and nostalgic familiarity. The only negative I could find was that my time would be limited and that they are a fair distance from my home but I found a new and wondrous place to rekindle my childlike dreams and memories and I know I will soon find my way back for another visit.

Such an amazing place to hang out. A chill atmosphere and wonderful coffee. Saturday morning children’s activities are wonderful too. They have a wide variety of books and comfy chairs to sit, drink and read.

It's great to have a bookstore like Totem in Flint. The people there are cool, and like what they do. I feel passion in the air when I walk in the door. I've found some great books there, some records, a new bookstore friend, and a place with super Karma. Peace to all at Totem! Thom & Susie Howes

If you have not been to this store you are really missing out! As the last bookstore left in downtown Flint, Michigan, this place makes you want to curl up with a book. In fact, you actually can curl up with a book right there! It is like having a library right in your living room.

I went to Totem to buy a fidget spinner and really like the store. The employees are very friendly and made me feel like I had been there a few times before. I recommend Totem to anyone looking for a good book or music.

Great coffee! Awesome collection of books at great prices! Wonderful staff! The girl went down to the basement to check on a book for me! So good to visit this treasure in my old hometown!

Great big well organized library of used books with coffee shop and lots of places to read and lounge. Friendly staff, and best of all, the Open Mic nights. Poetry readings, musicians, story tellers. Nice touch for a healing city. On Court Street across from the White Horse. Parking in back.

Finally, a bookstore where one can hang! I've wanted to go for so long, but life gets hectic. This is the perfect place to dial it down a notch. Books, music, incredible drinks and yummy food! There is a great collection of actual records, too. (Kids, records look like little CD's and it's how we old folk played music). Most importantly for me, browsing, while not a requirement for a visit, is encouraged. The staff are friendly and helped me find exactly what I was looking for. Planning a return visit today!

The place is larger than it looks and they have a wide variety of books to choose from. Great music! Which goes in hand with a good selection of vinyl! Next I’ll have to try the food! People are very nice as well as the customers coming in.
