The Howling Dog Saloon

About The Howling Dog Saloon

The Howling Dog Saloon is open during the warm months of Alaska's summer season for live music and fun under the midnight sun.

The Howling Dog Saloon Description

The Howling Dog Saloon is open from May to November at 4: 00 pm daily. We offer a full-service bar, smoke-free cafe, dance hall and live music on stage. Our beer garden offers shaded picnic tables, horseshoes, and perhaps the only regulation sand volleyball court in Alaska. In general, we require you be 21 and over with valid ID, please.

The Howling Dog Saloon first opened its doors in Ester in the late 1960's, when drinking age in Alaska was 19 and it was regarded as a "must go" by the University of Alaska Fairbanks community. After 1971, the Dog moved to Fox, where it occupied the old Fox Store and expanded to include the dance hall and large beer garden.

Through the 1970's & 80's the Dog gained popularity with a broad array of patrons as the Trans-Alaska Pipeline opened a new economy to Fairbanks and the "Haul Road" became accessible for public travel. We're located near the intersection of the Steese, old Steese and Elliott Highways, about 11 miles north of downtown Fairbanks.

As the world's farthest north rock & blues nightclub, the Dog presents great cover and original music by local, Alaskan and nationally-recognized talent. We also host events, ranging from Made in AK beer & spirit tasting to motorcycle shows, fundraisers for charitable causes and our notorious Halloween Party.

Consider our venue for club meetings, birthday and retirement parties. Marriages have been performed on the "Pope Carpet" of our "Holy Stage" and celebrations of life as well.

The Howling Dog Cafe offers Philly cheese steaks, burgers and grilled chicken sandwiches, plus sides and specials. The Cafe opens daily at 5: 00 pm, May through October.

Need overnight lodging? We offer rustic cabins through the summer season, accommodating 1 to 4 guests. For details call 907-456-4695 or ask the bartender on duty.

Like us on Facebook, join us for a rockin' good time. You're never too old to come HOWL with us at the DOG!

The howling dog is the best place to celebrate Halloween. Whether you are in costume or not this is an event you do not want to miss. It is definitely the best party in Fairbanks.

A decades old interior Alaskan rustic institution initially located in Ester, since relocated to Fox. With international fame and local impact with events like Foodstock, the Howling Dog has entertained generations of Alaskans and tourists as a local watering hole with great local music and events. Kudos to current owner Ralph Glasgow for resurrecting the establishment after the previous owner died, causing to Dog to close for an extended period.

High heels not recommend!!
