Oh, what a happy new year it’s gonna be!
Enjoy what’s left of 2018, hopefully we’ll see you in the new year.
NYE turned out to be amazing thanks to AFK Lounge and their sick dj’s! Love the music! Keep it up!! Special thanks to David and Rusti for helping keep me and my guests comfortable! I’ll definitely be back!
Just a place I can go in solo and just chill. Grab a drink, some food, maybe some PUBG afterwards downstairs. Sometimes even go to the overnight gaming.
Also fun with some friends, it is a bit pricey but I don't expect any less for a night out. Worth it in my opinion.
AFK vs the video game lounges in Vegas, I would say this is the better jack of all trades. Sure it doesn't have bowling or pool tables but I enjoy the food, drinks, games, swap meets.... Fanimecon maid cafes... (I love it omg)
If I'm not going with friends to barhop in downtown, this is litterally my go to place (supplying a convention isn't in down)
I love this place. My friends and I have thrown our combined birthday parties here for 2 years. Every year we have a blast. The service is always awesome, the waiters and waitresses are always very chill. I officially became a member for the lan center and love it. Being a primarily console player it's nice to be able to play on pc and join my friends that are exclusively on pc. Game on.
I flew in from Boston and this place was the highlight of my trip. The staff are wonderful and fun to talk to and they have a great sample of games to play. I will definitely be coming back on my next trip.
Hands down the best internet cafe i've ever been to. Staff is friendly and create an environment that you want to come back to. I'm about 90~ minutes out, but I do my best to make it there whenever I can. Great place to take your friends, and make new ones as well.
Great place! I've been part of a few of their tournaments and have made lots of new friends. Lots of space and choices for both casual and hardcore gamers. Looking forward to the game of thrones trivia night
Great local hangout with good beer on tap. I’ve been going to Tabletop Taco Tuesday for months and always have a great time. Looking forward to seeing the new location!
Great find for gamers! Went in with my bf since everyone else's kitchen was closed. Based on other reviews we expected ok bar food and pricy gameplay but not at all.
Friendly staff and great food. We didn't pay for a console but they had a free play area that was cool.
Definitely looking forward to going back again.
Despite the crowd during TI5 Grand Finals, the staff managed to stay friendly and positive! When there was some lag on our food they apologized, but it was totally understandable. Themed drinks were excellent too. My favorite was Storm Spirit. :) The lan area downstairs was also nice, with a staff member making sure we were able to get seats for our five-stack, despite a lot of chairs being moved from the PC area for watching the game. Looking forward to coming back when it's less busy and playing some consoles and trying out different food. :)
Chill af top floor. Every video game ever. Full service restaurant. Full bar w EXCELLENT whisky selection(Red Breast single malt Irish). Downstairs is multiarcade cabinet (every ar arcade game ever) and PC lounge. Tournaments, events, and concerts. Old nintendo 4 free or check out a n64 for just 10. Newer games too. Will def stop in here whenever a convention is in town. They have a central coast pinot I think available by the bottle. 10/10
AFK is one of San Jose's hidden gems. AFK has a state of the art lan center along with a selection of current generation and retro consoles.
Their full kitchen includes gourmet wood fired pizzas and video game inspired cocktails. They are located 10 minutes away from the shark tank and always have all the games playing.
AFK has something for everyone and is definitely worth checking out.
Issues at the bar at first, waiting and trying to get served by two tenders for more than 10 minutes while seeing 5 others served first who got there after me. I was even promised by a tender that they would get back to me, but they never paused by me again. However, after letting a third tender know, I received attentive, fast service and even a comp for having been left out. I bought a second drink and food after that, feeling back on track, and the tender brought the food to me, which I didn't expect (you typically need to pick it up from the bar where you order it). Quick repairs to a rough start in my evening and overall I feel that this incident wasn't a usual thing for the tenders, who are probably generous and attentive and had an off moment. I feel like there could be more interactive elements for patrons in the social area and maybe a bit more light - it was really dark near the bar. Even a way to know when your food is ready would help if you're not sitting at the bar or it's crowded.
I have been to AFk twice so far. Both times tge staff was great and friendly! Very helpful as well and their list of games although it may be a few it's a great one! The lounge is clean and tidy, everything runs smoothly! Their draft beers are excellent! Definitely have to try their Heretic! Reason for the four stars is due to the food we ordered on our second visit. mozzarella sticks and jalapeño poppers came out a little cold still. However, the cooks were very nice as I brought the food back up to get it cooked just a little more. Other than that definitely a place id recomment to fellow gamers and friends!
Great beer, good food, and quick service. My only complaint would be the bar has been understaffed on more than one occasion. Not frequently by any mean, but more than just an isolated incident.
Place is pretty cool and is different than the average bar, obviously. Plenty of TV's and options when it comes to gaming. Including a full LAN center in the basement.
Only downside are the prices. Drinks and food are overly priced. I kind of understand with trying to balance the costs of the gaming and other activities, but the drinks need to come down a few dollars. Other wise you might as well go next door, drink your fill, then walk over to AFK to do your gaming.
My favorite people keep leaving. When I go out to San Jose (from Michigan, mind you) that's "my place" to go with my friends. It won't be the same if the faces keep changing. I don't know if the camaraderie is the same out there as what I have experienced, but a lot of customers will follow their favorite staff to whatever place they end up going to, video games or not.
Bar service was incredibly slow. Took me roughly 10 minutes to get noticed and get my drink. For a huge crescent bar, only two were tending to the orders and both were manning just one end of the bar.
Although to make up for the slow service, I did appreciate the gaming gimmick which spoke to my heart. There were different consoles and different games to be played with decent rates. I did think upon coming in that there would be a specific area for gaming but finally saw that it was game-and-dine feel.
Would come back again with friends should they want a different setting and ambiance for gaming, but not hyped up for slow bar service and mediocre food.
Edit: Did not know there were more gamewise downstairs...
I really used to love this place but it has gone down the tubes. It was even a great Valentine's Day destination in the past. They have cut down the menu to simple appetizers, and the quality of service has diminished as well. This started out being a great restaurant where you could take your friends and have a decent meal and play games, and now it is just a messy bar scene with some games attached. It is sad to see it take this fall.
Decent beer selection, everything else left alot to be desired. For a place that claims to be a gamer lounge, it's not very inviting. Words like damp, dark, and man-jose come to mind. If you want anyone other than basement dwellers in your astablishment, please add more areas where people can interact with people they haven't met, some structure to your events other than "come watch this band in the way back," and some vegan options on the menu. Pro tip: Garden burgers are cheaper than beef patties, but you can charge your customers the same as regular burger and profit.
