Met up with a great friend of mine here walking distance from his place and I was pleasantly surprised with this gem of a place. Friendly, professional staff, amazing menu.... wine selection was great! Definitely a place to stop by for a birthday dinner with family or friends, or cozy, intimate place for a beautiful date with someone special. Can't go wrong, a definite must try! And desserts Wow!!
Everything about Buona Forchetta shouts excellence, from the mainly Italian staff to the authentic Italian cuisine. I have a new favorite Italian restaurant in San Diego. If you have not experienced this wonderful eatery, then wait no longer. This place is wonderful!!
Never had a bad meal here. Prices are reasonable and food is quality. Food was great. Staff very polite. We will stop again!
Had a truly exceptional dining experience. The service was impeccable and most importantly the food was delicious! I can't wait to come back!
Visited this fine spot on a friends recommendation. The ambiance is great, with a friendly outdoor setting, delicious smells, bustle of the lively kitchen and the Italian accented wait staff. Everything we ate was great with the exception of the meatballs (dry) and the cannoli (had better). You really want to go with the pizza here. Next time, we will try the pasta dishes and report.
Met all of my expectations for food. However the wine was kept at room temperature. On a warm evening their wine was served way too hot. If you've ever mistakenly left a bottle of red in your car during a warm day you know what I mean.
My first time in San Diego and I made sure to come here first. The pizza was fantastica and the wine paired with it well. I will definitely come here again. Well worth it. Plus hearing some of the staff speak Italian made me feel right at home
I live a block away and have loved this gem since day one. It is authentic Italian food that is always good. I have taken friends and family. We all love it. It is as good as it gets. I mean it is Italian like Italy. Good wine, great service and friendly place. You can dine alone if you want. Very accommodating.
After reading some reviews, I opted to get there close to 5pm (when they open for dinner) rather than my original plan of 6. That was a great idea as it got steadily busier as time went on.
Service was perfect - they were promptly delivering water and taking a drink order, but not pushy about ordering food as my friend and I were catching up and hadn't looked over the menu at all.
Then, the food was amazing! I got pasta, she had pizza. Both were incredibly delicious. Flavorful and fresh. And very well priced! They could easily charge more with how good their food is, and the location. But the cost is very reasonable.
At the end of our meal, we were offered dessert, and opted for gelato (which they get from a stand right outside the restaurant). That was amazing!
The only thing that's not great is the placement of the bathroom; it's past the kitchen entrance down a narrow hallway that all the employees have to go down as well, so makes it a little tight.
All in all though, my experience was excellent and I'll definitely be back.
This place is a little slice of Europe right in South Park. The food is absolutely top notch, and the restaurant is beautiful. They nail the classics and more modern dishes alike. I love sitting out on the bustling patio in the summer. It's a family business, through and through, and that shows in their service, which is outstanding. It's like being taken care of by family.
I don't remember what pizza and pasta we got but it was delicious. Easily one of my favorite pizzas I've had and I'm not a huge fan of artichokes. The crust is crunchy and the cheese is nice and thick. Great service and great atmosphere. Solid choice for when you have a hankering for Italian
Whatever you order, the food will be good. The waiters try their best while maintaining the ever busy atmosphere. However, the line is a bit over the top for me, with waits many time over an hour. Nonetheless, if you're willing to wait that time, the pizza is good, but there are definitely many other spots around San Diego that have equally good (if not better) pizza with no wait. I'd choose any of the homemade pastas with the various sauces. My favorite is the bolognese.
INCREDIBLE, must visit restaurant in San Diego. And if you get there right when they open for dinner, you shouldn't have to wait for your meal. If not, it's worth the wait...
Before I got the check, I already decided for 4 stars. Then when I saw the total on the bill, I decided for the fifth star due to the excellent value for money. Excellent pizza (I tried the rapini and sausage, one of the classic from the Neapolitan tradition) and it was very good. The crew is young, available and always nice. The atmosphere is casual, a little noisy when crowded. Don't expect to the false elegant, here is relaxed but the quality of the food is unbelievable. I'm Italian and here I felt at home, from all the points of view. Marcello is a pluri rewarded chef. A Bonus for the funny pictures in the bathroom!
One of the jewels of San Diego. Excellent quality food only out done by the people. Great food, service, and vibe. This place is a must. The best quality is its consistently excellent food. You will never be disappointed if you bring friends. Eat, drink, laugh, and enjoy your evening in an unpretentious atmosphere. 5 out of 5 on any scale for Buona Forchetta.
