We came over from Switzerland 🇨🇭- I was here before! It is a great place - GREAT FOOD 🥘 AND ESPECIALLY NICE STAFF!! From A to Z was all excellent!! Thank you I come again!

We ate a late dinner at the cafe because we reserved our table the same day. The food was amazing, the service was exceptional and the ambience was superb. I had the freshest herbed salad (made by Emily the salad girl, yes, there is a girl dedicated to just making salad!) and then when I asked the waiter what was in the dressing, he gave me the whole recipe to try and make at home! The mint chocolate chip ice cream was better than cleaning your teeth. When I mentioned to our waiter that I loved it, he snuck me another scoop! It was the perfect date night meal and food we will reminisce about for awhile to come! Thanks Alice and team!

This is an amazing place that every visit reminds me how amazing it is.

Well planned menus of locally sourced ingredients from a staff that receives a living wage. Good community citizen

The service was warm and friendly and the food was perfect. My friend and I shared a small pizza, I had clams cooked beautifully and finished with two different desserts. Beautiful view upstairs in the cafe on a gorgeous night.

The dishes we had were delectable. The staffs were attentive and cordial. The atmosphere was lovely and romantic. A bit noisy but didn’t bother us much. The reservation was pretty difficult to obtain. However we had a tremendous good time here last night.

Loved our meal. Chef added beets to my salad and it was wonderful.

It is just the best restaurant in Berkeley, period. We usually ate at the cafe upstairs, because of the casual ambiance (that we love) but the quality of the food and the service is as good as the formal restaurant downstairs.

I really hope someone from the restaurant reads these. The woman at the host stand last night, June 21 at 10pm, was fantastic. She was juggling a large surge in diners arriving and she did it with a smile on her face while gracefully gliding through the room inter acting with staff members to ensure tables were set up properly and keeping an eye on those of us who were waiting to be seated. I wish I had asked her her name and I do hope you have an employee recognition program in place for those that go above and beyond what is asked of them. Our server was delightful as well. And the food...well you know...... :-) Thank you!

I know the reviews are mixed and some people feel Chez Panisse is past it's prime, but our experience was fantastic in every way. The wait staff could not have been more friendly-professional and flexible to our wants. The food was exceptional and delicious.

Food, wine 🍷 pairing and service were excellent. Definitely a place to enjoy in the Bay Area. 😘

Fantastic as always from the butter to the light handed desserts. Great service and a spectacular meal. Tough to actually decide on what to have but the fried rabbit and a bottle of Domaine Tempier were well matched.

Exceptional service, exquisite flavors, artistic presentation, worth the trip! Visiting from Colorado, definitely will return again. Unforgettable.

Elegant without being ostentatious, The Cafe upstairs has a creative menu that features the freshest and highest quality ingredients with unique recipes. The halibut I had was simply and perfectly prepared. The plum galette for dessert was a slice of heaven.

As always, these folks are just super. The food is wonderful. Not flashy, not fussy, just really, really good. They even noticed that we weren't crazy about the wine and brought us a different one that was WAY better. All in all, just the usual: an outstanding meal.

A magical experience of warm hospitality, a glowing ambiance, and delicious food you will not soon forget.

Birthday lunch for brother in law, who had never been. Access was difficult for me, with too many stairs. Then, hostess jammed my left hand moving table out. Service was good and food seemed ordinary, but good. Dessert menu was not for the lactose, gluten intolerant. All in all, it's not the Chez Panisse, from earlier days. Have equally good or better food in Bay Area now and in wine country, like French Laundry. Riding on past glories and mostly for tourists now.
