Reviews
I've been here twice now and both times were exceptional. My kids can be a bit of a handful at times, and definately walk around with too much energy, but the wait staff here is always nothing but polite and patient, making them (my daughter, especially) feel very welcome and very special. That alone is worth a positive review, but when paired excellent coffee, good cocktails, and wonderful food, then you've got a real winner on your hands. The food is a little pricier than I usually pay, but you really do get what you pay for. Average entree has been 14/15 bucks for me and 4 bucks for a cappucino, but the portions are grest, the food is superb, and the coffee is crafted with care and quality. If you haven't been, you need to go. I suppose it is also worth mentioning that they've had a couple people on food network now (the owner won the competition).
The food was fine and table service was good. We asked to sit outside (party of 4) and they had a bunch of 2 top tables all around. We asked if we could push 2 tables next to each other and was told no that is not allowed. When we left the 2 tables we wanted to push together were in pushed together with 4 people sitting at them. Pretty stupid
It's a great and beautiful place. I loved the atmosphere and the staff was very friendly. The wait was not too bad for a Sunday morning.
5 stars for food and if you are adults patrons they are nice to you. If you have a baby then you will quickly find out they are not accommodating.first, baby strollers (with the car seat + even it it acts as a chair for the kid) are not allowed on premise. Ok. We we're denied a chair beside our table for our baby car seat because there was apprently not enough room to serve. So instead our baby goes on the ground outside. Was this really the right call? Our table had lots of flies buzzing around our baby, request to move inside (we we're willing to stay put until something was available) was also denied -- told that we needed to go back and wait in line for 30 min. We had been regulars before but now it makes me think twice about coming. Their prices are expensive - enough that if you don't even get good service it's not worth it. Honestly left pretty infuriated.
This is a great place to eat breakfast and lunch. very nice outside spot and inside. Lots of pastry's and pancakes, waffles, sandwiches and more!!!!
Great venue for week day or wkd brunch. Friendly staff with relaxing seating on patio or inside. They serve up Dark Horse coffee, local roaster, which is a favorite.
The best place to have Sunday brunch. We love our coffee late with coconut milk James makes the best coffee in the house. My favorite waitress is Emma , she is super friendly .
Food is always fresh and pastry ....... you better be on time because it sells really fast speciously the almond
croissant ;)))))
Nice bakery cafe. Friend staff and nice location. I tried their most popular croffins. It was a cross between a croissant and a muffin. It was a bit too much chocolate for me.
I just made my standard recipe for baked chicken breasts and used 1/4 C of her Orange/Cardamom/Fig glaze mixed into the chopped tomatoes topping. Fabulous! Unique! Next I'll try it as a glaze on fish. i love her products.
Adorable setting in La Jolla. So nice to see a sweet bakery shop that also serves breakfast and lunch. I ordered the chicken avocado salad. It was great. My friend ordered the eggs benedict. One of the eggs was raw, which we will forgive them for. They gave her mini cupcakes to apologize since she didn't let the server know until we were done eating (too late to replace it). So all is forgiven. The important part was that they made it right once they knew. That's good customer service.
Went for brunch on Sunday while hosting some visiting family and The Cottage was too packed. At first they promised us less wait time so we were seated in about 15 mins. Unfortunately the server came to take our order, didn't write anything down then after 45 minutes we were told we had a new server and due to a "kitchen glitch" our order was taking a little longer! She only gave us a quick sorry and gave us 2 pastries on the house which didn't help my gluten free starving status! Then when the food finally came the server put asparagus on the side instead of in my scrambled eggs. Another quick sorry from the food runner. Funny thing there were a bunch of empty tables around so not sure how they messed up this bad. Would have been great to have had a manager stop by or perhaps give us a break on our bill for this terrible experience that ruined our brunch for our visiting guests. Will def be going back to the Cottage next time. Even though they're busy they have stellar service and food comes out fast!
Sugar and Scribe made the most beautiful gluten-free pastries for our wedding. We settled on the red velvet for our cake and ordered pie bites in strawberry-rhubarb and mixed berry and everything was so delicious. The red velvet was super rich and chocolatey plus moist and you would never know it was gluten free. On top of being everything being scrumptious the cake was gorgeous, semi-naked with flowers it was so beautiful my dessert table was stunning.
