Come visit us during the Solano Art Walk! Don Hazen photo reception, and Daniel Krasnor at the espresso machine 5:30-9:30!
The Don Hazen Collection of nature photography is now being exhibited at Cafeina.
Saturday, October 12th, as a part of the Solano Art Walk, you are invited to a special reception 7-9 PM to view Don's professional images and enjoy complimentary refreshments.
Don's illuminating photographs represent a limited collection of inspiring landscapes and outdoor scenic images. Don's favorite photographic haunts include the Eastern Sierras and the Northern coast of California. His her...oic battle through 3 years of cancer ended in August of 2011, yet his remarkable legacy of photographic images lives on. Don's natural life images have been compared to the nationally recognized light photographer, Galen Rowell.
Critics refer to Don's work as being unique and stunning. "Although he was a master of technique with his camera and in the "darkroom", it's the expression of his feelings concerning the beauty of nature that make his art stand out."
Mollie, Don's wife, also a professional photographer, is keeping alive the memory of this remarkable and gifted soul with his legacy of work. Together they shared a mutual interest in photography and she is now running their business, Hazen Nature Photography.©
Don's photographic images have been displayed and exhibited in local galleries, restaurants, local City Hall Gallery, and corporate venues. Photo prints will be available for purchase at the reception.

Six quiltmakers stitch up a lovely exhibit at Cafeina. Showing through June.
Nina and Miranda Barton are mother and daughter. Nina learned to quilt after Miranda began making things. Nina loves the way colors and shapes go together to make something wonderful.
... Sci-fi and quilt enthusiast Miranda Barton is a Berkeley native currently living in the quirky confines of Portland, Oregon. She began quilting in high school, and over 14 years later she continues to sew and is lucky enough to share this passion with her mother, Nina.
Lisa Doyen has been quilting for many years; she, too, quilts with her daughter. She is well known for her fine eye for color and line, and an exquisite aesthetic. She is also a birder.
Leonard Pinna is an eclectic creative artist/educator who after years of working in theatre, ventured into abstract painting with palette knife and acrylics. In recent years he has focused his attention and energy into quilt-making. As a quiltsman, he specializes in client collaborative and customized designs.
Mary Risard Burnett is a traveler, and a former special education teacher, as well as a fine quiltmaker. She recently relocated to Oakland, and is now part of the fabric of our local quiltmaking community.
Melissa Quilter is a fourth generation quilt maker. Her great grandmother Mary Bolles Stevens was the community quilt maker in her farming village in the Palouse. Melissa began quilting in earnest when she was studying at the University of Virginia. She loves to make whimsical quilts, usually quite colorful, sometimes didactic. She likes to quote her husband who observed "once you know about quilts, there are times when nothing else will do." She made two of the quilts in this show, and quilted all but one of the rest. Melissa is a professional long arm quilter, and consults with individuals, organizations, and schools in the completion of all kinds of quilts.

I love Cafeina from the bottom of my heart there will never be a cafe where I felt more welcomed. The food, the beverages, and the staff are incredible.
Great breakfast and lunch menu made with all-organic ingredients, fair-trade caffeinated beverages prepared to the letter of each order and served with a smile by a family-like crew of folks who joke with the cafe's regulars on a first name basis. The atmosphere is airy and spacious, 80s pop playlists and college indie rock stations adding to the mellow vibe. Personal fave treat: Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding (...dooode ...)
Delicious, fresh, and Vegan choices for my Leafeater =)
