My go-to for green coffee, with amazing brewed coffee too! The owner is very knowledgeable, and the location is cozy and non-pretentious.
Gotta buy a pound of coffee for a friend...It smells sooo good in here!
Canal Town is among Rochester’s oldest “first great coffee places” which helped us all now appreciate coffee! Pete finds great joy in roasting great coffee to give his drinkers great joy. My absolute favorites are his smooth flavorful dark roasts.
This is a true gem and I'm sad I didn't discover this place sooner. I walked in and the owner greeted me at the counter, answered all my questions, and talked to me about the shop. He roasts his own coffee right in the shop multiple times a week so it's always fresh. He offers many types of mixes, flavors, and single origin beans. You can tell they care about quality and their customers. I would definitely suggest this place for a nice quiet cup of coffee and some free Wi-Fi.
Best coffee in Rochester and a friendly, helpful staff. You can't go wrong here.
Great espresso! Unlike other coffee shops Canaltown does not charge for soy milk. I've now converted.
The beans are roasted on-site and you can’t beat the price and quality of Canaltown Coffee Roasters. Plus the staff is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. The atmosphere is calm and unpretentious. It’s typically pretty quiet from my experience if you like that for work or study. They have free refills and the pastries are delicious!
Best coffee around, they roast it in house! Peter and the baristas really know their stuff, and there is always some good conversation.
Great selection of house roasted coffee, decent/fair prices. Wonderful place for a quick cup of excellent coffee, quick and wonderful service, and even a simple bite to eat!
BEST COFFEE IN THE WORLD! (And I've been around the world and back) What makes the best coffee is where you get the green beans and then how soon you roast the bean before you make coffee. Well this place roasts the coffee beans everyday so it can't get fresher then that! And the places where they get the beans are only the highest quality locations. The atmosphere is awesome and relaxing. After the first time I stepped into this coffee shop I can't drink coffee anywhere else!
My favorite coffee here is the Peruvian light roast in a French press! The lighter roasts have much more caffeine (because the longer the coffee is roasted the more caffeine gets burned out of the bean) and are a much smother coffee. Don't try it if you have heart issues!
Update... still the best coffee in the world!
Paid for slice of cake and a large coffee. The coffee had a strange taste at first and on a second taste I realized I could taste a large amount of dish soap. It was to late for me to react though, since I was just then realizing that the soap had reached my stomach and that I would be sick fairly soon. Not wanting any conflict and also needing a private place to void my body of the soap coffee, I decided it was best to just leave and dump the remaining coffee.
The cake? I never received it and thanks to the coffee situation I didn't get a chance to ask if I ever would.
