Small, independent bookstore in Deep Ellum. I give them five stars for the concept of their publishing house: take foreign language bestsellers and translate them to English for the American market. 3 stars because they didn't have as extensive of a selection as I had hoped (it's really a small place). They do have a little cafe and a kids book section. Worth checking out if you're in the neighborhood.
Just visited this place in October from Canada. Amazing chemex coffee. Lots of indie publishers that you wont find anywhere else. Check out their "Blind Date" books!
This is a small pretty bookstore and cafe with beautiful books! They also publish.
I love this place, I always visit when I am in the area. I was looking around and the lady there (I sadly forgot her name) asked me if I was looking for anything in particular. I told her everything I had read so far and was trying to find something in the suspense mystery area that didn't involve cops. She suggested the perfect book for me, and I had other people read it.
This book shop is full of local authors, and hard to find reads. The people who work there KNOW the books that they sell, and it always sells great due to the coffee and paper of the books.
I always tell my friends about it when they want to find a new book to read, but are tired of the hyped up books that recently came out.
I hope this place stays open for a very very long time.
I'm visiting Dallas for work and try to make a point of going to some fun places when I'm in any town. I have a deep love for bookstores, as many do, and this place is possibly the best one I've ever been to. The selection was entirely foreign to me, which I loved because I'm tired of B&N. I got so many books while I was here, and I could have gotten many more. The staff is so nice as well - we chatted and she helped me find a lot of wonderful books. I'm so sad I don't live near here - Pittsburgh needs to take a leaf out of Dallas' book (ha?).
The perfect bookstore! (for me, at least) I read almost entirely world literature, often in translation, and if not from university presses, it's from small presses like Deep Vellum carries. Every time I've visited them their selection has been excellently varied, and the way they have the store laid out (by publisher) gives customers an easy way to help themselves find more of what they like. They'll also order books for you!
Very quaint place to pick up some interesting new reads. Lots of books published by smaller publishers you may not have normally heard of are sold here. Most recently picked up a translated version of the book by Yuri Herrera here called "Signs Preceding The End of The World" and it was a good read I can't say I'd have found elsewhere. I'm sure I could have, but it'd have been harder. This place just puts them right in front of you. Will be back.
Love that deep Ellum has its own bookstore now. Check them out to see what interesting new authors and publishers they're offering. Love that they advocate for little known works.
Exactly what you would want in a neighborhood bookstore!!
Cozy friendly inviting and active
Amazing selection of books. The coziest bookstore in town.
Such a great assortment of book! Get one of the cool zines!
