Pretty good place. Very nice hosts. Good coffee, good people, good ambience. What else do you want?
One degree off in every way that counts.
I drive by It's A Grind most mornings on my way to work, so this would be my Go-To place if they made some very important changes.
1. Their coffee is awful. Obviously that is an egregious oversight in a coffee shop, and it saddens me to even have to use that adjective. Unfortunately, I've tried their lattes, cappuccinos, drip (french, breakfast, seasonal, etc), blended, iced, and mochas, and each and every time it tastes burnt, flavorless, or a bizarre combination of both. In an attempt to mask this I have also ordered flavored varieties... to no avail. Still bad. Their website claims "micro-roasted", and I call BS.
2. They don't allow for tipping when using a credit card. To each their own, I suppose, but this really bugs me. Unless that's a part of the franchise conditions, you need to change that policy.
3. Inconsistency. Every other time I've been there, my order has either been wrong, lukewarm, under-filled, or a combination thereof. Several of the times I felt like I was speaking Sumerian, because what I ordered and what I received weren't even remotely close. The last and final time, I ordered a large double dirty chai, was handed a blended mocha java rush ten minutes later. They ended up giving me a freebie card as an apology this time, but by that point I was just done. Still haven't used it.
4. Dark, echoey, and uninviting. The interior ambiance needs some work. It *could* be inviting... but there's just something very dark, cold and uncomfortable that made me want to always get my coffee To-Go. Most of the time, I'd walk in and there would be zero music, with the only sound being two girls chatting with each other echoing out from behind the counter. It's a coffee shop, folks, not museum.
5. Counter vs Drive Thru. Standing inside the building, being the only individual that is currently there placing an order shouldn't take 15 minutes to obtain a coffee in the morning. But if you happen to be standing there when there are cars in line in the drive thru, guess who gets serviced first? Every single person in the drive thru before you. A couple of the times I had to ask where my order was, because they had forgotten... again, only one standing there.
Being a local spot, i do appreciate the convenience of this place, but the inconsistent quality of product has kept me away for sometime now. Coffee was either too hot or too cold. The cup was either half empty or half full. Wait! Exactly! Thats why i stopped going.
Adorable friendly little hangout. Great coffee, smoothies and baked goods. Comfy chairs to hang out in... funky cozy place!
Great ambiance. Friendly and cheerful staff. I typically have their cappuccino or latte but occasionally treat myself to some of their fancier drinks like blended mocha and have loved all of them. Their cinnamon rolls are the best!
If you're looking for good traditional cup of black coffee (and I don't mean Folgers), go somewhere else. If you want a cold coffee drink like what Starbucks offers but for a little bit less, then this place is solid. The spot itself is nice and I can appreciate that they have a drive thru, but the coffee just isn't very good. I really just wish that coffee shops would offer more than one kind of coffee for any specific drink. You want an Americano? Well you only have one option for the bean, and it's "meh". I guess I'll keep driving to places like Houndstooth and paying insane prices elsewhere...but they're worth it.
We usually get the Funky Monkey which is always tasty. Today they asked if we wanted to try it with real banana and we said yes. People, get it with the real banana- super good!!
Their coffee is pretty good. I usually get an iced coffee, but I really like this place because the staff is super friendly and helpful and they have very comfy chairs. I visit once or twice a week during the year, and they've always been great.
I love this place, & I come here all the time! However, I'm leaving this one star because I got a drink here yesterday & I asked for Alamond milk instead of regular milk in my drink because I'm highly allergic to milk. After I finished my drink I became VERY SICK, the sick I only get from consuming milk. It irritated me to no end. I understand mistakes happen, but when you're a food/beverage establishment you have to be very careful for customers who have special requests. Be careful if you need a substitute for milk here. Id recommend watching the person who makes the drink. Otherwise this is an overall awesome place with a nice staff.
This place is AMAZING!!!! And the staff are all fanatically stupendous!!! 🤓the coffee was the best I've had since ive been in Austin! 🖤❤💛💚🖤 and its an awesome place to get work done. Its quiet and they have free wifi!! Couldn't ask for anything more.
Quite place for break. Love the place.
I love this little coffee shop. Definitely better than Starbucks. Friendly girls, cozy seating, and lots of baked items and sandwiches to choose from.
Fabulous Coffees and very nice customer service, I live in Temple now but try to stop every time i come to N.Austin.
Friendly staff, great coffee, good atmosphere and a drive thru!
