Yummy food! Stopped by for the first time today. Enjoyed the chicken and dumplings-perfect for a cold winter day and hubby had the roast beef pocket which was also excellent. In this fast food world it's hard to find good quality food at a reasonable price.
When you just want some good home cooked meals, Kay’s is the place to go. The food never disappoints, the service is friendly, and the cafe is small and comfortable. It’s just a few miles outside of town heading east on 71 near the Heart of the Pines fire station. Try it, you’ll like it. Check their hours of operation. Closed weekends and Monday.
What a great find. We stopped by for lunch yesterday and had one of the best meals we've had in Bastrop County. Everything was completely made from scratch and cooked to order. If you see the Pot Roast Pockets on the Specials menu, order it, it is delicious. Perfectly cooked pot roast enveloped in puff pastry. The burger was amazing. The people who work here are very friendly. We'll be back.
We have eaten at Kay's three times and each time it was great, I had their meatloaf, gravy mashed potatoes and corn bread and it was just like you get at home, no sugar in the corn bread thank goodness. Its just a great small place to eat.
This is the place we eat at every time we visit Bastrop. The food is fresh and tasty and service is excellent. Recommend this place for good home cooking!
The food was great--flavorful, fresh, locally grown. Friendly owner and staff, quick service. We look forward to returning!
Kays Cafe has the best food by far in the Bastrop/Smithville area. Service may be a little slower but only because everything is made fresh to order and everything is delicious....not your typical fast food/restaurant stlye, but really good flavorful and healthy. I would eat there everyday if I could.
Kay's is one of the most consistent cafe that we've been to in this area!!! Their cheeseburgers (oozie-burger) is the "Bomb"!!! The staff is awsome!!!
Kay's Café is a hidden secret even if she is right on Highway 71 between Bastrop and Smithville! Everything I've eaten there has been outstanding and top quality. My husband had the Texan burger yesterday and said it was the best he's ever eaten! Her brownies are amazing, especially when they are right out of the oven.Let's support this hard working woman and great cook!
Kay's Cafe is my go to place for lunch! I can always find plenty of good healthy home cookin' menu items to choose from. Thank you to the staff for making this such a pleasurable experience for us.
It was very good, and the wait staff very Nice's and. Friendly will be back and any one that love homecooked meal come on down
If you are looking for a good homestyle meal, this place is it. Kay is very creative in her cooking skills, and everything is fresh. And the sides are always more creative than just a canned vegetable. Everything I've had was yummy. I have never been disappointed. The waiter service is great, and the prices very reasonable. Highly recommend.
If you are ever out this way you should make a point to stop in for a meal. Home cooking at it's best!! I LOVE this place!
I've known Kay for many years and consider her not just a friend, but family. Her food is amazing. She buys from local farmers and uses only the best to make the best food possible. You will be amazed at the value of your meal as well as the incredible flavors. And don't forget the deserts. All home made! They also cater. All I can say is yum......

I went in yesterday for lunch and had the club sandwich and tortilla soup It was all sooo good I want some more of the soup today to go with the other half of the sandwich I couldn't finish because I got to full..Oh and to the top the rest of the meal desert was this yummy éclair cake it just melted in your mouth..I will be back for more good food there
Had meatloaf lunch that was yummy & peach cobbler ala mode for dessert free because it was my friends birthday. We will be back.
Great, reasonably priced food. Nothing is fried. All dishes are made when ordered. Good customer service!
Great place, the owner cooks every meal, that is why their hours are so limited.
It is very worth the time and short drive.
Best meal ever!! Home cooking and nothing fried here. Russo was the best waitress. The grilled cheese and bacon was the best I have ever had. The peanut butter pie was to die for! We are in town for Round Top and googled home cooking. Small, cozy, right off the highway and just a pleasure! Thank you Russo for making us feel like we were locals!
