My fiancé and I went to eat early for a Friday at Kerby on 183 North. That was around 5 p.m. or so. There were very few people this time, so we received our food quickly. Our server's name was Julie. She was attentive, respectful and friendly. She was very knowledgeable about the menu as well. I eat gluten free so I asked for a sandwich with a gluten free bun. Everything was understood.
My sandwich came out with a regular bun. I let the server know and she got it fixed immediately! That was nice. Then, the server let us know that the manager took my dinner off the bill. That was nicer! I was very happy that everything was taken care of without me raising a stink. Thank you, Julie!
Another delicious breakfast from Kerbey Lane. Solid Breakfast taco. The pancakes are must and I definitely recommend getting the Cinnamon Swirl on it. Only complaint was the wait for the pancake, I was told the there was a hold up in the Kitchen making pancakes? Oh well, still a good meal.
The North Austin location looks cleaner than what it was 2 years ago. Food quality and taste has improved. Their chilli, burgers and sandwiches are good. Star rating is for quality of food.
One thing I notice is staff is in constant churn.
Sometimes you will have totally inexperienced wait staff who won't get soup spoon with soup and by the time they get it you have cold soup. At this message you will get really considerate staff who take care of everything.
The solid basic fare is decent, but overpriced. They try to do some cool things with the food, but it usually falls short. Don't get fooled by the cool menu descriptions either! You need to specifically ask how much of each of those cool ingredients is actually on the plate!!! The last two times I was there they put one sliver of chicken in my chicken tortilla soup and the pork belly benedict consisted of two cubes of pork fat the size of a pair of dice. Standards are dropping way down. Sad to see really!
I was told that the brunch scene in Austin is something to check out and I was not disappointed going to Kerbey Lane!
The wait would have been about 15 minutes, which wasn't bad considering that it was PACKED. But, thankfully there was a single open seat at the bar!
The bartenders worked wonderfully as a team to take care of all the customers. I was served a bloody mary quickly and my food arrived in a timely manner! I ordered the Vegan Breakfast Platter, and WOW! What a great meal! The patties and tofu scramble went extremely well together. The pancakes just topped it all off, great flavor and some warm syrup to go along with it!
I'll be going back again in the near future!
If zero stars was possible I'd do it. The food was god awful! Rice was hard, food was cold, my "lamb burger" was all over the place! Overpriced and we were rushed out of there. Food came out so quick it was probably microwaved. Never again! I suggest Magnolias instead.
They're queso is to die for. Decided to have their chicken and pancakes and it was amazing. The wife had the lemon poppy seed French toast and those tasted awesome as well. As usual they always come through with great food and wonderful service
It was slow and we were promptly seated. Unfortunately, that was the best part of the experience.
Things went wrong very quickly. We ordered coffee, an appetizer and 2 entrees. The coffee, even through the mug was cold. I'm not sure why the wait staff wasn't able to discern this fact. The entrees then arrived, thus asking about the appetizer. It was never entered into the computer. After three bites of the also cold entrees, we got up and left.
We explained to the host, in order to be fair, why we were leaving. He apologized and said "We will do better next time. Please come back."
While the sentiment is well meaning, it rings hollow. This is not the first time that this has happened. I'm all for 2nd and maybe even a 3rd chance, but no more. When this location was in a rinky dink wooden building across 183, it had charm, personality, good food and great service. Now Kerbey Lane North is as nondescript as the strip mall that it resides. For now, I will spend my money at Taco Bell. I know the order will be right, or at the very least hot.
Not at all what I had previously come to expect from Kerbey Lane. Was it the location? A slow night? I don't think it was slow, the house stayed pretty full. Seated immediately, the wait staff courteous and friendly. They bent over backwards for the wife's allergies and the food was excellent. What is not too love about that. The food was so pretty I took a picture of it and I just don't do that.
Didn't seem as relaxed as I'd hope. I went to dinner there at around 1 - 2 in the morning and it was PACKED. Not the restaurants fault, just worth mentioning. The service was excellent, of course. The food was very diner like. My burger was very "thrown" together, yet refined and tasty. I was scared away from the expensive menu, with only 3 listed appetizers, all of which are chips priced very high. Yet I was pleasantly surprised when my burger was very well proportioned. All and all, it's definitely worth the money. Entire meal for to was around $20 or so.
If you have the patience of a saint or are ok sitting at the bar you can't go wrong here. We have made it an "Even-Year" tradition to do Thanksgiving at Kerbey Lane and it is awesome. Love their baileys coffee and the brunches are innovative and tasty.
Never once have I been disappointed here... even with the wait times.
The food is always perfect, the coffee is always hot and the beer is always cold.
I also just saw a waiter pay for a table of guests as a pay it forward kind of deal. I only observed this from across the room, but it goes to show the kind of esltablishment Kerby Lane truly is.
This was my first visit. My waitress was very accommodating. One of older waitresses broke about 20 health code violations. I saw her put whip cream on an espresso beverage; was having an issue with whip cream so she used her finger, then licked her fingers. Also, saw her coughing in her hand without washing hands afterwards. She had a customers food that she was taking to kitchen, she was poking it with her fingers. I would give a higher rating, but these are serious health code violations. I would most likely recommend this place or eat there again because of this.
I have been here several times to work on late night projects. The food is good, but not always a good choice if you are aiming for health. It is 24/7 so that is a big plus for the night owls. Sometimes if you are on the back porch late you may get ignored for a bit. The staff is super-friendly though.
