Picnikins Patio Cafe Description
In 1988 only four years removed from their native South Africa and with no food service experience, husband and wife team Andre and Cheryl Bezuidenhout began their incredible journey. Andre was a builder by trade and Cheryl a pianist and mother of two young boys. Forced to make a career change the duo began planning their next move. A good friend of theirs had a small space in the lobby of an office building he owned and offered them the opportunity to lease it. At the time, they had no expectations, rather a necessity to succeed. They leased the space to open a deli. The idea was to provide local professionals with a fresh, quick and affordable lunch that was easy to transport and eat. They named it Picnikins Deli. They quickly gained a great reputation for the quality and freshness of the food and for the friendly service from "the sweetest people with the coolest accents. "
The pair realized that they were accomplishing something special and decided to offer catering and delivery services. Like the deli, they quickly gained a reputation as the "go to" place in the San Antonio medical center for fresh food, prompt delivery, and excellent service.
Fast forward to today, Picnikins has since left the tiny space in the medical center, expanded the menu and operations. In addition to the catering business, now there are two beautiful locations in San Antonio.
Picnikins is now a unique blend of fast casual by day and upscale bistro by night. Our daytime menu features made from scratch soups, gourmet sandwiches, fresh and unique salads and dressings, as well as amazing burgers and hand cut fries. Our evening menu features simple yet sophisticated Bistro items, delicious appetizers, mouth watering grill items and made from scratch desserts that are simply divine. All of which you can pair with a selection from our hand selected wine list.
Over the previous twenty-five years, with a tremendous amount of hard work, dedication and commitment to our family, this amazing duo, my parents laid the very foundation in which our beloved restaurants are built today. Although the operations may have changed, the core values we keep have not. Fresh great tasting food and a commitment to excellent customer service are what we are all about.
On behalf of Andre, Cheryl and the entire Bez family, we look forward to meeting you and would like to welcome you and your family to Picnikins!
