This was our first time to visit this amazing place. We were greeted by a very sweet elderly gentleman with a friendly, sparkling personality that matched his eyes, who showed us to our table when it was our turn. Our waiter was every bit as warm natured and bubbly, and quickly returned with our drinks after we ordered them. The young man who brought our food was the same, and as we watched various employees interacting with each other, it was easy to see why The Texan Cafe & Pie Company is so successful. Each had the other's back, cheerfully helping one another as they engaged with all their diners during such a crowded time.
Our burgers were thick and juicy, and came with a very generous helping of fries. Though I really tried hard, I just couldn't finish such a huge plate of food! Sadly that also meant I did not get to sample any pie, as I was just too full! No worries though.. I will just head over there another time and try some of the coconut cream pie for lunch and then have a piece of their key lime pie for dessert! Or maybe the turtle pie... or the s'mores pie. So many choices! Can't wait! lol. :-)
Wonderful home cooking. Generous portions, and helpful wait staff. You know you're food is going to be good when there's a line and 15 minute wait, but the place next door is half full.
This is the second time I have been here and both times it was great. The server was very nice and even though it was almost closing we didn't feel rushed to eat. The Chicken Fried steak, sirloin and burger are really good. I love the history that paints the walls and the pies are so wonderful!
It's a shame I don't live closer. :)
Great place and great comfort food. Never had a bad meal here. Parking sucks and its always very busy/crowded. Local favorite though. The atmosphere is right for the type of food and service.
Excellent pie! I got the pecan pie which ranked up there with possibly the best I've ever had and my wife got the coconut cream pie which she says is the best she's ever tasted! You can really see the beef on their burger too! They were huge, juicy and fantastic! The fries were good. The fried okra was ok but not the best. What impressed us the most is how efficient the staff and restaurant was ran. The place was packed but we were seated right away, got our food quickly and our waitress couldn't have been better. Great experience overall and we will be back!
My husband and I have found a new favorite eating spot. It can be crowded around dinner time on the weekends, but it's worth the wait. Food is nothing fancy but good comfort food and home cooking like. The pies and cakes or an added treat.
It's a decent cafe with some pretty good pie. Better than cracker barrel but not as good as momma's! If you're passing through Hutto, or need last minute plans, Texan Cafe is an authentic roadside diner/cafe with all the classics. The pie is also very good, I would start with the guy pie and work your way down from there!
Everything is better with pie! They are not wrong, is comfort food, nothing fancy but clearly freshly made. I truly enjoy their liver and onions, yum!
The food is always very good. The service is extremely good. The cost is minimal for the amount of food served and the owner makes you feel like you belong. I am a frequent customer.
First time here. Chicken fried steak was wonderful. Mac and cheese very good. Nice big glass of tea. I asked for extra lemon and got huge wedges. Coconut pie was delicious. Got a piece of chocolate silk pie but it wasn't what I thought. It didn't look or really taste like chocolate. But good food and good service.
Lookin' for some down home cookin'? This is the place! Great food; all kinds of traditional southern dishes and the wait staff are perfect. One guy even has a Mohawk, cool. Be sure to save room for one of their awesome pies!
Service was slow asked for tea 3 times before went looking to get my own, rare steak was well done... yes, they were busy but I wouldn't think that would be anything new for this place... should if been able to handle the crowd.
Not going to lie to you. I come here for the deserts! Don't get me wrong, the food and service is fantastic, but who doesn't love a fresh lemon meringue pie? That's the secret of this little shack in downtown Hutto, nestled in with all the hippos you'll find this gem just 3 blocks off the main highway, good thing most people don't know what they're missing, they would eat all my pie!!
Very wonerful place. Whenever we being my daughter the servers always talk to her and play with her. They are always quick to get your order out to you and extremely kind. When they say southern comfort food I never expected to be treated like family 10+ stars!
