When this bar was still GS 1221 it was *one* of my favorite bars in San Antonio. Now that it has a full bar and a revamped menu it definitely is my favorite bar. The food is created and prepared by somebody from the culinary institute, and the quality and effort put into it shows. It's amazing food that's sold reasonable prices. The beer selection and beer knowledge of the bartenders has always been awesome and is one of my favorite parts of going here. The inside of the bar is recently remodeled and is such a cozy and welcoming spot to hang out. This is one of my favorite bars to bring friends and hang out. Ten out of ten would recommend.
The service was quick, the Stone Bitter Chocolate stout was cold and delicious, the price was very fair, and the company I was with, exceptional. I highly recommend this establishment to all my friends.
Super friendly staff, fantastic prices, and can't beat the location. My only complaint is that they close at 11! But other than that its my go to craft beer place.
Really good beer selection, great atmosphere, awesome location. Great place to go when it's a beautiful day and you want to sit outside.
I love this place. The outdoor patio is beautiful and inside is always clean and inviting. Plus, they have board games and a great selection of beer and even wine for us gf nerds.
I am not a beer person but my boyfriend drags me everywhere. This place always helps me find something I will enjoy while my boyfriend geeks out over the beer selections.
Great place. Chilled here for first time. Lots of craft beer choices, TVs, cozy seating and a wall that edumacates you... Definitely coming back to try some flatbread pizza.
Great place to meet up and chill with friends. Perfect atmosphere for watching a Spurs game and enjoying some of the best craft beer available. Not to mention the staff are some of the most friendly you will find anywhere.
Great modern pub! Knowledgeable bartenders who are friendly! Delicious food truck on Saturday, Feb 20th. I loved the Blood Orange Cider so much I went back for it the next day!
Easygoing, laidback place to hangout. The street tacos are very good for pub food and the Indian style dishes are a welcome addition. This is a cozy upscale neighborhood bar and just fun to hang out at. They have table tennis and cornhole outside and multiple TVs inside.
The beer selection is very good with a big selection of microbrewery names. The recently added liquor shelf makes it a good place to stop by before you begin a night of pub crawling.
Cisco was our bartender/cook/server and I witnessed him take care of a 50 seat restaurant/bar on game day BY HIMSELF. Management, please give your employees more support. If it wasn't for his demeanor and work ethic we would have been out the door. Thanks Cisco (the 5 stars is for Cisco, not management).
Absolutely love this place! They have the best service and friendliest staff ever! And a great selection on tap and it's always good to see Alfred
Nice cozy vibe. A good beer selection most of the time. Beer is priced better than the Saucer. Board games for fun. I'm a high abv fan. Loved when they had Russian Pilot.
Love this place, great pizza, dog friendly and we can walk there!
Friendly place, lots of unique brews to sample and tip, Arsenal lost but still enjoyed it
Update 5/12/2018
New name...same service. We stopped in to catch a little baseball and try out the new establishment. Through the course of our visit we ordered some
Nachos. The employees were so focused on talking to each other that they forgot about the 3 food tickets they had waiting. After 15 minutes we finally reminded them and they proceeded to fill the orders. My issue with this place the last time was he service and unfortunately it is still way below the standard set by other local establishments.
Got there around 3:30 and the bartender on duty was out smoking about every 20 minutes instead of taking care of customers. She also had a very loud phone conversation right behind the bar that was extremely unprofessional and full of f-bombs. Swearing isn’t a big deal to me at all, but that was not the right setting for an employee to do it so loud. Won’t be back anytime soon.
So they have a special, $1.50 all day for Lone Star, but not the light version. However as POSTED on the door we came in on Sunday, which should have fallen in with these prices. We were over charged and the bartender stated "oh, that's an old sign". Well you know what, take the sign down and don't have in 3 places posted if it is not accurate. Also, when the bartender did wait on us, she seemed put out to help, and wanted to get back to the kitchen dishes. Usually we have good service and rave about this place. When we got some friends to meet up, they had this same rude bartender and was overcharged and tried to dispute which she was unwilling to fix. Sounds like some staff training needs to happen and a friendlier atmosphere needed.
So I have been coming here for a few years and never had anything to complain about...until now. I walked in expecting to get my $1.50 lone star on draft as I have been the last couple weekends as this is my go to beer. The bartender Brittany rang me up and came out to $6.50 for two lonestar beers. I said I thought that the special was going on, she said on Friday’s and saturdays and I pointed to one of the 3 flyers including one written in chalk in the place that said Saturday’s and Sunday’s, she said they were old. I said cancel my order and I would go elsewhere and she looked like she was being put out by the customer asking for her to fix her mistake, but she did fix it and was less than kind doing it, probably not coming back. Way to get rid of loyal customers and their hard earned money!
New name. Same poor service. I’ve been a patron on several occasions to the old GS1221. I have made more than an attempt to like the place. The concept is great for the neighborhood. They recently changed to Roost Pub and Cafe and I actually enjoyed the change in decor and looking forward to the liquor license. We ordered chips and queso with pico. Simple enough. After 20 minutes I inquire and the cook is sitting in the common area chatting away with 3 tickets waiting on the kitchen. One of them mine. The poor level of service is unacceptable especially in an area as close to the pearl which demands the best our city has to offer. Many people will settle for mediocrity, and apparently I did for awhile, but no longer.
I would like upper management and ownership to take heed to a review such as this and you pretty much wasted your money on a liquor license if this is the level of service you are going to provide. I live in the neighborhood. I love showing love to the neighborhood. But just as equally I can also voice a strong opinion when asked for recommendations and to know where to stay away from. You’re on the stay away from list till further notice. Poor poor service.
