Went last week after tubing in the San Marcos. My friend, Mary Littlefield Devine recommended the Root Cellar. Hummus and veggies were amazing! Then I had a chicken breast topped with perfectly cooked veggies topped off with radish sprouts. Amazingly tasty! Delectable!!! They know how to treat great food! Not overcook it or over season it!!!
My Grandfather, Carl William Raetzsch was a Medical Doctor practicing on the San Marcos Square after he graduated from Old Red in Galveston in the early 1900's. The historic San Marcos Square is very special to me!
We was looking for a quiet downtown San Marcos restaurant and walked into this place. WOW did we find a diamond of a place. We will be coming back to this place over and over again when we are in town
We love love love the Root Cellar
Breakfast Lunch Dinner
great asset to San Marcos Community plus Kyle Mylieus and the Team are the most generous with their catering - we have them cater frequently for Dahlia Woods Gallery events and will be doing lots more with these amazing restaurant. So lucky to be right across the street!!! A fave is the Beet Burger and Pecan Chicken and everything on the menu
We had breakfast here on Wednesday and loved the place! I recommend the migas (perfect) and my daughter recommends the Brazilian French toast with rum sauce! Delicious!
This is a must go to restaurant. Rustic cellar deign with great friendly staff. We all got something different, creating our own little buffet. There is no wrong choice here. Every thing is spot on in taste with generous portions. Get the bread as an appetizer with cinnamon butter. You just may want to eat that all night. Dessert get the house special snikerdoodle bread pudding with locally made ice cream.
My daughter took me to the Root Cellar yesterday. It was my first time but will be coming back. The staff was friendly and the food good. When we have out of town guest that will be our go to restaurant.
I've always loved the Root Cellar. I took my visiting family there today, and they all agreed: phenomenal! Food was outstanding as always, and our server was fantastic. Thanks for always giving me a great meal, and for being my go-to for showing off what makes San Marcos great!
I had the Brazilian French Toast with the whipped cream and fruit. It was delicious. And Morgan, my server, never let my coffee cup get empty. I highly recommend this place. I can't wait to try lunch or dinner here the next time I visit my Texas State student.
I LOVE this place! A great atmosphere and the BEST French toast and coffee ever!! Just went for dinner for the first time ever and dinner was great as well! Always fantastic service! Couldn't ask for better!!
Had a great breakfast meeting with a dear friend. The food, service and atmosphere was exactly what we needed. It's great for families and adults seeking something that is an authentic representation of San Marcos. Unique dishes, fresh food and personal service. Well worth the visit.
Food and drinks are amazing and the price is decent! Would recommend Any one to try out this place all the food is from farm to table fresh ingredients every day!
Everything on the menu is delicious! Their service is always top notch. The only problem is deciding what to choose because it's all wonderful!
Another great experience. Killer Pumkin Stout for a cool winter afternoon. Had the orange chicken, rosemary entree and it was perfect and clean as well. The folks with us had Beet Burgers which they thouroghly enjoyed.
Amazing! Everything was so good. We had appetizer: artichoke spinach dip with pita bread. Two dinners: black bean burger with asparagus fries. Dude! These asparagus fries are amazing!!! Pecan bourbon chicken with garlic mashed potatoes. This chicken was the best!!! Wow! Didn’t have room for dessert so guess what?! We’re coming back! :)
Always bummed that it's closed on Mondays. Also, wish it was a bit bigger. It's the best place in San Marcos, it should have more space.
But NOTHING to complain about in regards to the service or selection. So yummy! Try the beet burger and asparagus fries!
Usually my favorite place bc the workers and food but I had the Turkey tomato cheese sandwich and it was amazing til I started seeing like prices of cotton fuzz on the bread like it was buttered and wasn’t in a clean area I have worked at restaurants and this has happen before when I’d make something with bread. I took it to go and didn’t say anything then tried eating it in the car and saw more fuzz like things in the sourdough bread and threw it away.... place is great just had bad luck unfortunately
Some friends and I were in San Marcos visiting yesterday. We came across The Root Cellar Cafe on Yelp and decided to visit, I am so glad we did. Apparently it’s the place to go for brunch on Saturday’s( there was a 20min wait for a table). Some locals stirred up conversation with us while we waited, which made it go by quickly. The food was great and had many gluten free options and the coffee was spectacular, just like the service. Overall, we had a pleasant experience.
Great meeting place for friends & family! Fresh and suprisingly gormet menu well priced. Ask for your preferences to the menu & waitstaff is always attentive and helpful. It's a quiet date spot, but can be a tad noisy depending on the crowd. I have no complaints.
Came for breakfast with my kiddo - the food is always delicious. However, restaurants have more than just food that makes the experience. It took 30-40 minutes to get our food. We saw tables sit, eat, and close out during that time so knew it was something off. Our waiter never told us what the delay was - which would have helped in our waiting and wondering. In fact, he never returned after checking on our drinks until bringing our food. I had to ask the host table if they could check on our food. Apparently they mis-made my daughters meal and had to refire it. Unfortunately my eggs Benedict must have sat in the window during the refire as my yolks were cooked through and it was cold by the time I got it. We had somewhere to be, so couldn't have waited any longer to "fix" it. The manager offered a discount - so we got $3 off for the long wait.
